    The Prime Minister of Canada, M. Pierre Trudeau, had formal talks with President Yahya Khan of Pakistan in Rawalpindi on Thursday, 7 January. M. Trudeau was visiting Pakistan on his way to the Commonwealth Prime Ministers' Conference in Singapore.

    President Yahya Khan is reported to have told M. Trudeau of Pakistan's concern that neighbouring India might become a nuclear power. M. Trudeau flew on to New Delhi after his visit to Pakistan.

    The two heads of Government are also reported to have discussed the sale of arms to South Africa and other topics expected to be debated at the Commonwealth Prime Ministers' Conference.
