  • Description

Representatives of the six members of the European common Market and four countries which are seeking to join - Britain, Denmark Ireland and Sweden - met in Brussels on Wednesday (2 December) to try to bring their policies closer together.

Foreign Ministers of the ten nations are examining the Middle East situation and prospects for an East-West conference on European security in the light of the recent Common Market meeting in Munich - the first in a series designed to ass a new political dimension to the Community.

Under the procedure for these sessions, the Six are pledged to consult the other four countries as soon as possible afterwards.

At Munich, the Six agreed to concert Middle East policy and in Brussels on Wednesday they heard Britain's views on the subject put by the Foreign Secretary, Sir Alec Douglas-Home.

The Brussels meeting did not go closely into the European security question as this was the subject of Nato talks being held in THE Belgian capital at the same time.
