  • Description

The U.N. General Assembly in New York Oct 17 brought to an end its eventful 4-week review of world affairs.

Among the speakers was India's Krishna Menon, who submitted a resolution co-sponsored by India urging all countries to co-operate in the cause of peace and to refrain from action likely to aggravate international tensions. The resolution, sponsored by a total of 21 member states, most of them "uncommitted" countries of Asia and Africa, but including Austria and Yugoslavia, was adopted unanimously. Its terms are generalised and unexceptionable.

At the beginning of his speech Mr. Krishna Menon praised Britain for her far-sightedness in bringing independence to her colonies, and said this had benefited both Britain and the former colonies. The were, he said, more Britons living and working in India now than there had been before independence.
