  • Description

THE SOUTH ARABIAN ARMY TODAY (THURSDAY) OCCUPIED DAR SAAD, A TOWN OUTSIDE ADEN, WHERE ARAB MATIONALIST GROUPS HAVE BEEN FIGHTING EACH OTHER. THERE WAS NO FIGHTING WHEN THE ARMY SEPARATED THE TWO GROUPS -- THE NATIONAL LIBERATION FRONT (NLF) AND THE FRONT FOR THE LIBERATION OF OCCUPIED SOUTH YEMEN (FLOSSY).

YESTERDAY, THREE ROYAL AIR FORCE HUNTER JETS LEFT ADEN FOR JORDAN -- A GIFT FROM BRITAIN TO JORDAN TO REPLACE SOME OF THE HUNTERS LOST IN THE MIDDLE EAST WAR.

DAR SAAD, IN THE STATE OF LAHIJ, IS ON THE MAIN ROUTE FROM ADEN TO THE YEMEN. A WEEK AGO, THE NLF WAS IN CONTROL AND THEN THE FIGHTING BROKE OUT.

THE WOUNDED FROM THE BATTLES HAVE BEEN PASSING A CHECKPOINT MANNED BY BRITISH PARATROOPERS ABOUT HALF A MILE (KILOMETRE) FROM DAR SAAD, ON THE BORDER OF ADEN AND LAHIJ STATE.

THE TROOPS SEARCH ONLY FOR WEAPONS BEING SMUGGLED INTO ADEN AND ALLOW THE CASUALTIES THROUGH FOR TREATMENT IN ADEN HOSPITALS.

WATER AND POWER SUPPLIED ARE CUT IN DAR SAAD SO THE TOWN'S WOMEN GO TO THE CHECKPOINT FOR WATER SUPPLIES AND THEN WALK BACK.

THE THREE HUNTER JET AIRCRAFT FOR JORDAN WERE FROM THE RAP 8/43 SQUADRON AT KHORMAKSAR. THE HUNTERS, ALREADY DESIGNATED WITH JORDANIAN MARKINGS, WERE FLOWN BY BRITISH PILOTS TO JORDAN FOR THE OFFICIAL HANDING-OVER CEREMONY TODAY.
