    THREE MONTHS OF THE SENTENCE WERE SUSPENDED ON CONDITION THAT NKOMO IS NOT CONVICTED OF OFFENSES UNDER THE LAW AND ORDER ACT FOR THREE YEAR.HE WAS GRANTED BAIL, PENDING AN APPEAL.

    ARMED POLICE WITH DOGS PATROLLED THE COURTS PRESIDENT WHEN NKOMO ARRIVED AT COURT YESTERDAY (FRIDAY) TO RECEIVE JUDGEMENT.CARS IN THE AREA AND AFRICANS ENTERING THE COURT WERE SEARCHED BY POLICE.

    NKOMO, 46, WAS PRESIDENT OF THE ZIMBABWE AFRICAN PEOPLES UNION (ZAPU), BANNED LAST YEAR BY THE SOUTHERN RHODESIAN GOVERNMENT.HE'S AT PRESENT LEADER OF THE 'PEOPLES'S CARETAKER COUNCIL' WHICH ITSELF HAS BEEN BANNED FROM HOLDING MEETINGS UNTIL NEXT MONTH.HE PERSONALLY HAS BEEN BANNED FROM ATTENDING ANY PUBLIC MEETING UNTIL FEBRUARY.
