  • Description

A British couple who last November set out from Lesotho to pony trek twelve thousand miles to Munich for the 1972 Olympic Games have had to abandon their plan to make the trip together.

Mr. Gordon Naysmith, a Scots born computer system analyst, is leaving his wife, Mrs. Ria Naysmith, in Nairobi and will continue the Journey alone. He left Nairobi on Saturday (23 October).

The couple reached Nairobi on horseback last month after covering two first stage of almost four thousand miles. Mrs Naysmith had suffered adversely from such prolonged riding, however, so her forty year old husband built a covered wagon. They resumed the trip on 14 October, only to break down just a few miles out of Nairobi. Mrs Naysmith will now return to her parents in Lesotho while her husband continues on his own.

If all goes according to plan, Mr Naysmith will ride on to Addis Ababa, Massawa, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, the Soviet Union, Rumania, Hungary, Austria, and finally Munich.
