    U.S.ARMY TROOPS FIRED THE ARMY'S TWO-STAGE "SHOOT AND SCOOT" PERSHING BALLISTIC MISSILE ON A SHORT RANGE MISSION DOWN THE ATLANTIC MISSILE RANGE FROM CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA, 17 APRIL 1963.

    THE DUMMY WARHEAD SECTION OF THE MISSILE IMPACTED IN A PRE-SELECTED TARGET AREA DOWN THE MISSILE FIRING RANGE.PRIOR TO THE FIRING, THE MISSILE WAS "ROUGH-ROADED OVER A BOUNCY UNPREPARED COURSE AT CAPE CANAVERAL, MUCH AS IT WOULD TRAVEL UNDER BATTLEFIELD CONDITIONS".

    THE MISSILE WAS FIRED FROM THE GROUND MOBILE MODE IN WHICH THE EQUIPMENT WAS MOUNTED ON FULLY TRACKED VEHICLES.A FULL SET OF TACTICAL EQUIPMENT WAS USED TO PREPARE, ERECT AND FIRE THE ARMY'S BALLISTIC MISSILE.

    ALTHOUGH THE FIRING WAS MONITORED FROM THE BLOCKHOUSE, THE TACTICAL SYSTEM PROGRAMMER TEST STATION PERFORMED THE TACTICAL COUNT-DOWN FUNCTIONS.THE PRIMARY POWER PACK SUPPLIED THE POWER AND PNEUMATIC PRESSURE NECESSARY TO ERECT THE MISSILE AND RUN THE COUNTDOWN.THE MISSILE CARRIES A MINIMUM INSTRUMENTATION AND RANGE SAFETY PACKAGE.
