SYNOPSIS: Kuwait's Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Hamed al-Sabah received a warm welcome from Syria's President Hafez al-Assad in Damascus, on Friday.
Sheikh al-Sabah had arrived in Syria earlier in the day for a two day visit and was met at Damascus airport by Syria's Foreign Minister Abdel Halim Khaddam.
During his meeting with President al-Assad Sheikh al-Sabah personally handed him a message from the Kuwait government. Reuters reported that the contents were identical to a message that will be given to Egypt's President Anwar Sadat.
The message conveyed Kuwait's deep desire for Arab unity and a plea for both leaders to appreciate the necessity of encouraging and maintaining that unity.
Later in the day Sheikh al-Sabah also had talks with Foreign Minister Khaddam.
As well as touching on topics of mutual co-operation between Kuwait and Syria it is understood that once again the importance of solidarity in the Arab world was discussed by the two ministers.
