The Flotta Lauro liner ROMA sailed from SYDNEY a couple of hours ago with a cargo of dogs for the Burmese Army. The dogs, which were loaded onto the ROMA yesterday are Alsations and Labradors. They have been trained for obedience at the Australian Army's kennels at CASULA, near SYDNEY. The dogs will eventually be used for guard work, as patrol dogs, or in mine detesting Burmese soldiers have been training in preparation for taking delivery of the dogs; and a party of Burmese soldiers is travelling with them on the voyage. An Army spokesman said that conditions in BURMA were so different from conditions in AUSTRALIA that special training would have to be given the dogs in BURMA.
