  • Description

ON TUESDAY NIGHT, EUROPEAN FARMERS IN KENYA MET THE PRIME MINISTER, MR KENYATTA, SOCIALLY FOR THE FIRST TIME. THE OCCASION WAS A PARTY GIVEN AT THE STATE HOUSE IN NAIROBI BY THE GOVERNOR GENERAL, MR. MALCOLM McDONALD.

(MORE AND MORE EUROPEANS IN KENYA ARE EXPECTED TO SEE KENYAN CITIZENSHIP, FOLLOWING THE EXAMPLE OF THE LANDOWNER. LORD DELAMERE, AND THE PRESIDENT OF THE KENYA NATIONAL FARMERS' UNION, MR. JOHN POLLARD. THEY HAVE UNTIL THE END OF NEXT YEAR TO DO SO.)
MR. KENYATTA MOVED AMONG THE GUESTS AT THE PARTY, CHATTING WITH THEM. THE PARTY WAS ATTENDED BY A LARGE NUMBER OF FARMERS IN KENYA, BOTH EUROPEAN AND AFRICAN.

(IT WAS REPORTED YESTERDAY THAT SOME 400 BIG FARMS BOUGHT BY AFRICANS FROM EUROPEANS IN KENYA ARE IN SUCH A STATE OF DETERIORATION THAT THEY ARE IN DANGER OF BEING TAKEN OVER BY THE GOVERNMENT. MR. POLLARD SAID MANY AFRICANS WHO HAD PURCHASED FARMS WERE MAKING A SUCCESS OF THEM IN SPITE OF UNDER-CAPITALIZATION AND LACK OF EXPERIENCE, BUT MANY OTHERS WERE IN A DESPERATE PLIGHT.. MR. POLLARD CALLED FOR MORE ASSISTANCE FOR THESE FARMERS.)
