    DEDICATED TO THE PROMOTION OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE PEOPLES OF THE WORLD, THE NEW BUILDING RECEIVED GRANTS FROM BRITAIN, THE UNITED STATES, THE U.S.S.R., INDIA, WEST BERLIN, AND JAPAN.

    A NUMBER OF DISTINGUISHED GUESTS AND NIGERIAN DIGNITARIES ATTENDED THE OPENING CEREMONY, INCLUDING AMBASSADORS FROM SEVERAL OF THE WORLD POWERS AND THE CHIEF JUSTICE AND CHAIRMAN OF THE INSTITUTE, SIR ADETOKUNBO ADEMOLA. U THANT, THE UNITED NATIONS SECRETARY GENERAL, SAID IN A CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE THAT THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE INSTITUTE SIGNIFIED THE DETERMINATION OF EMERGING AFRICAN NATIONS TO BECOME A DYNAMIC FORCE IN WORLD AFFAIRS AND MAKE A VALUABLE CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS THE SOLUTION OF MAJOR PROBLEMS OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS.
