    NEW SOLDIERS OF MALAWI'S ARMY, ATTACHED TO THE MALAWI RIFLES, RECENTLY FINISHED THEIR TRAINING WITH A PASSING-OUT PARADE AT WHICH MALAWI'S PRESIDENT KAMUZU BANDA TOOK THE SALUTE. AFTER THE PARADE, THE TROOPS DEMONSTRATED THEIR TOUGHNESS BY NEGOTIATING AN ASSAULT COURSE, WATCHED BY THE PRESIDENT.

    THE PARADE WAS HELD AT COBBE BARRACKS IN ZOMBA, WHERE ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY MEN OF THE MALAWI RIFLES PARADED AFTER COMPLETING THEIR RAINING. FROM ZOMBA, THEY WILL BE SENT TO MAN A NEW BARRACKS AT MZUZU.

    AFTER TAKING THE SALUTE, PRESIDENT BANDA AND THE COMMANDING OFFICER OF THE MALAWI RIFLES, COLONEL D. E. THORNTON, WATCHED THE TROOPS IN ACTION ON AN ASSAULT COURSE.

    THE MALAWI RIFLES WERE FORMERLY PART OF THE KING'S AFRICAN RIFLES, WHICH SERVED WITH DISTINCTION IN THE TWO WORLD WARS.
