  • Description

Aircraft of all nations are co-operating in an air-lift of humanity between earthquakes stricken Agadir and Casablanca. World War two bombers and modern airliners have been conscripted to evacuate survivors from the heap of death ridden rubble that was once a beautiful Moroccan city until earthquakes, tidal wave and fire struck in the night of Feb 29.

With the haunted look of people bordering on insanity, they were helped from the aircraft and taken to emergency relief centres set up by international Red Cross and other voluntary organisations. Some were still wearing night clothes. All the possessions they were able to salvage from the debris they carried with them.

Back in Agadir fear of a typhus epidemic caused by a combination of open sewers running freely, and completed lack of fresh water in hampering the battalions of international demolition workers. Smeared with antiseptic ointment they work tirelessly in the heat, wearing gas masks to combat the terrible smells.

Authorities Mar 3 issued orders for the city to be razed by bulldozers and explosives. All hope has now been abandoned for the many thousands still buried beneath the mountains of shattered buildings.
