Background: Iraqi Premier, Major-General Karim Kassem, opened an East German industrial exhibition Oct 6 in Baghdad - the first ever to be held in the city by the German Democratic PRepublic. Hundreds listened as Dr Hermann Grosse - leader of a four-men East German delegation - and then General Kassem, spoke at the opening ceremony.
The Prime Minister wished "good luck to all nations which do well to better life." He also said he wished to see the German nation united.
Later, the party toured the exhibition to inspect the latest industrial equipment, cameras, watches, electrical appliances and vehicles. The 3-week display was to officially open to the public the following day.
