    Joe Oke, the Ghanaian and West African middle weight boxing champion, defeated Eibrahim Mohammed, the Todoless champion, in a non-title match in Accra last Friday (28 February).

    Oke was awarded the victory by of a technical knockout when Mohammed gave up and ran to the ropes near the end of the fifth round of the scheduled 10-round bout at the Kumasi Sports Stadium. the verdict came at the two-minute, 32-second mark of the round.

    The Ghanaian champion dominated the fight, flooring his opponent briefly in the first round and again in the third forcing the pave throughout. The victory was a form of vindication for Oke, who in a previous fight had been knocked out for the first time in his career by Shaco Mamba of Zaire.

    Oke had said before Friday's match that he regarded it as a warm up for his pending double-title clash with George "King" Aidoo.
