France kicked off to begin the match, and the ball was spun along the New Zealand backline to the centre who jinked his way upfield. Possession was lost to the Frenchman, and Marsolan ran wide to score. They try wasn't converted.

Kicking off after the half-time change-round, the Kiwis Kept this ball dep in French territory until Marsolan fielded a kick-through and threaded his way the length of the field to score near the posts for France. The New Zealand Kiwis kept up their tactics of using short job kicks to test their opponents' defence. One of these was followed up by Cooksley and a try resulted.

France Came back quickly with another converted try, scored by Bana, but it wasn't sufficient to beat the Kiwis who won by 16 points to 15.
