  • Description

The Italian Communist Party has begun an active battle against the 'center left' Government which at present is in office in this Country.

The party has called a series of rallies which will take place in different Italian cities. The first of these rallies took place in Rome late this afternoon.

Criticisms of all sorts are laid at the governing group's door: their activities, their policies, the fact that the group isn't 'leftist' enough and above all the fact that the Government doesn't condemn with enough 'force' the outlandish activities of the American Armed Forces in South Vietnam.

The rally took place in the square before the Basilica of St John's Lateran in Rome; Roughly some ten thousand demonstrators file led the square with banner, posters etc.

Luigi Longo Secretary of the Italian Communist Party spoke to the crowd. His speech lasted some two hours and touched all points mentioned above. From time to time he was cheered by the demonstrators.
