    ON HIS ARRIVAL, TUN RAZAK WAS 'CHALLENGED' BY A MAORI DANCER TO DECLARE HIMSELF FRIEND OR FOE.TUN RAZAK PICKED UP A TWIG THUS DECLARING HIMSELF A FRIEND.

    THE GUESTS WERE ENTERTAINED TO A CONCERT STAGED BY MAORIS FROM THE ROYAL NEW ZEALAND INFANTRY REGIMENT BASED AT TERENDAK CAMP IN MALACCA, WESTERN MALAYA.

    THE DANCERS ALSO PERFORMED THE TRADITIONAL "STICK GAME" IN WHICH PLAYERS STRUCK THE STICKS ON THE GROUND AND THREW THE STICKS AT EACH OTHER IN A COMPLICATED PATTERN.

    FOOTNOTE: NEW ZEALAND WHO HAS ANNOUNCED MILITARY SUPPORT FOR MALAYSIA IS MAKING MORE TROOPS AVAILABLE FOR SERVICE IN THE DEFENCE OF MALAYSIAN BORNEO.DURING THE LAST SIX MONTHS OF INDONESIAN CONFRONTATION, NEW ZEALAND TROOPS FOUGHT ALONGSIDE MALAYSIAN MILITARY UNITS IN ACTION AGAINST INDONESIAN INFILTRATORS IN MALAYA.

    WITH THE ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE NOW BEING OFFERED, THE TOTAL STRENGTH IN PERSONNEL OF THE NEW ZEALAND FORCES SERVING IN MALAYSIA WILL BE BROUGHT UP TO MORE THAN 1,300 MEN.
