    NEARLY 200,000 PEOPLE FLOCKED TO THE 80TH ROMAN CATHOLIC CONVENTION IS STUTTGART, WEST GERMANY, YESTERDAY (SUNDAY) FOR THE FINAL DAY OF THE FIVE-DAY RALLY, AND HEARD A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM POPE PAUL.

    THE FINAL DAY BEGAN WITH AN OPEN AIR SERVICE UNDER AN OVERCAST SKY. THE HUGE CROWD GATHERED AROUND AN ALTAR AT WHICH MASS WAS CELEBRATED BY THE APOSTOLIC NUNCIO FOR GERMANY, ARCHBISHOP CORRADO BAFILE, IN CONJUNCTION WITH TEN BISHOPS AND 20 PRIESTS.

    BELLS RANG OUT AS THE NUNCIO HEADED THE PROCESSION, INCLUDING HIGH RANKING DIGNITARIES, TO THE OPEN AIR CHURCH CONSTRUCTED AROUND THE ALTAR.

    THE OPEN-AIR CHURCH, WITH A WOODEN FRAMEWORK, WAS IN THE SHAPE OF A TENT SYMBOLISING THE FACT THAT GOD HAS "SET UP HIS TENT AMONG MEN, AND THAT MAN IS ON A PILGRIMAGE TOWARDS HIM."
    (LATER IN THE AFTERNOON, A SPEECH WAS MADE BY THE WEST GERMAN CHANCELLOR, HERR ERHARD, AND A MESSAGE FROM THE POPE WAS TRANSMITTED TO THE CROWD.)
