THE ELECTION IS FOR ALL 450 SEATS IN THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY.

THE JUSTICE PARTY, WHICH WON THE 1965 ELECTION WITH A 66 SEAT MAJORITY, IS EXPECTED TO WIN AGAIN.

THE MAIN OPPOSITION WILL COME FROM THE REPUBLICANS, THE LABOUR PARTY AND THE TRUST PARTY, -- A SPLINTER REPUBLICAN GROUP. THEY ARE CONTESTING ALL SEATS.

THERE ARE ALSO FOUR MINOR RIGHT-WING PARTIES -- THE NATIONAL, THE NEW TURKEY, THE UNION AND THE NATIONAL MOVEMENT PARTIES.

THERE IS BASIC AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE FOUR MAJOR PARTIES ON FOREIGN POLICY ISSUES, INCLUDING TURKEY'S MEMBERSHIP OF NATO, AND THE ELECTION CAMPAIGN HAS BEEN FOUGHT ON DOMESTIC ECONOMIC ISSUES AND TURKEY'S PROGRESS TOWARD BECOMING A MODERN INDUSTRIAL COUNTRY.

THE POLITICIANS HAVE CONCENTRATED ON HOW THEY WILL IMPROVE LIVING STANDARDS IN THE RUGGED RURAL AREAS.

THE TREND OF THE ELECTION IS EXPECTED TO BE KNOWN BY MONDAY, BUT THE OVERALL RESULT MAY NOT BE KNOWN FOR SEVERAL DAYS.
