For the first time the World Championships of the Hornet Class yacht, are being held in Denmark, July 22. The racing is at Oresund, the stretch of water that separates Denmark and Sweden, near Copenhagen. British yachtsmen are in the lead for the first three places.
With a crew of two, the 16ft Hornet has become very popular in Britain and the Commonwealth countries. In good weather conditions it is very fast and easy to manage. Entrants from Britain, Scotland, Canada, Australia, Nyasaland, Kenya, Nigeria and Denmark are taking part.
Last years winner Beecher Moore, Britain, is well placed after the first four days, with another Englishman Brian Walker, holding a narrow lead in the championship points table.
