    TWO MONTHS AHEAD OF SCHEDULE, THE GIANT LOWER VOLTA BRIDGE, LINKING GHANA WITH TOGO, DAHOMEY AND NIGERIA, WAS OPENED ON SUNDAY. THE BRIDGE WAS OFFICIALLY OPENED BY LIEUTENANT-GENERAL J A ANKRAH, CHAIRMAN OF GHANA'S NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL, ACCOMPANIED BY LIEUTENANT-COLONEL ETIENNE EYADEMA, HEAD OF GOVERNMENT OF NEIGHBOURING TOGO.

    THE LOWER VOLTA BRIDGE, BEGUN IN FEBRUARY, 1965, COST TWO MILLION POUNDS (STERLING) TO COMPLETE. IT HAS SEVENTEEN SPANS AND IS 2,118 FEET (640 METRES) IN LENGTH.

    THE BRIDGE, WHICH PROVIDES A VITAL NEW LINK WITH COUNTRIES TO THE EAST OF GHANA, WAS BUILT WITH THE HELP OF WEST GERMANY ENGINEERING COMPANIES.

    THE WEST GERMAN MINISTER OF ECONOMIC CO-OPERATION, HERR WISCHNEWSKI, ALSO ATTENDED THE OPENING CEREMONY.

    AFTER THE OPENING, A CONVOY OF CARS STREAMED ACROSS THE BRIDGE FROM SOGAKOFE TO SOKPOE.
