    DEMONSTRATING STUDENTS AT LAGOS UNIVERSITY, IN NIGERIA, STABBED THEIR NEW VICE CHANCELLOR IN THE BACK AND PUNCHED HIM IN THE FACE YESTERDAY (TUESDAY) AFTER THEY HAD HOWLED-DOWN HIS INAUGURAL ADDRESS AT THE CAMPUS.THE VICE CHANCELLOR, DR.S.O.BIOBAKU, WAS ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL WITH AN INCH-DEEP KNIFE WOUND, AND A STUDENT WAS DETAINED BY POLICE FOR QUESTIONING.

    THE UNIVERSITY RE-OPENED YESTERDAY AFTER BEING CLOSED LAST MARCH FOLLOWING STUDENT RIOTS OVER THE REPLACEMENT OF DR.ENI NJOKU AS VICE CHANCELLOR BY DR.BIOBAKU.SUPPORTERS OF DR.NJOKU SAID HIS REPLACEMENT WAS POLITICALLY INSPIRED.

    MORE THAN 200 RIOT POLICE WERE OUTSIDE THE UNIVERSITY YESTERDAY WHEN DR.BIOBAKU ARRIVED TO MAKE HIS INAUGURAL SPEECH.STUDENTS DEMONSTRATED AROUND THE CAMPUS, STONED DR.BIOBAKU'S CAR AND SHOUTED HIM DOWN WHEN HE TRIED TO SPEAK.HOWEVER, A RIVAL GROUP OF STUDENTS SUPPORTING DR.BIOBAKU CHEERED HIM.

    THE NEW VICE CHANCELLOR WAS STABBED AND PUNCHED AS HE TRIED TO ENTER HIS CAR, AFTER BEING ESCORTED FROM THE CAMPUS, AT THE HOSPITAL HIS WOUNDS WAS STITCHED AND HE WAS DISCHARGED.A UNIVERSITY LECTURER, WHO HAD BEEN MANHANDLED BY STUDENTS, WAS ALSO TAKEN TO HOSPITAL.
