    SIR HUMPHREY, WHO IS FLYING FIRST TO BAHREIN AND THEN ONTO LONDON WAS ACCOMPANIED BY ADMIRAL SIR MICHAEL LE FANU, COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE BRITISH MIDDLE EAST FORCES.

    SIR HUMPHREY, WHO LEFT A CHARGE D'AFFAIRES FOR TODAY'S (WEDNESDAY'S) FINAL WITHDRAWAL OF BRITISH TROOPS, TOLD A PRESS CONFERENCE: "THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT HAS NOW CARRIED OUT ITS PROMISE TO GIVE SOUTH ARABIA INDEPENDENCE BY 1968. I WISH A HAPPY, PEACEFUL AND PROSPEROUS FUTURE FOR THE COUNTRY".

    "WE LOOK FORWARD," HE ADDED, "TO LONG AND GOOD RELATIONS BETWEEN THE UNITED KINGDOM AND SOUTH ARABIA".

    SIR HUMPHREY ALSO PAID TRIBUTE TO ARAB CIVIL SERVANTS IN ADEN AND THE SOUTH ARABIAN ARMY WHICH, HE SAID, HAD BEEN A FORCE FOR STABILITY.

    THE FORMAL PROCLAMATION OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF SOUTHERN YEMEN WILL COME AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT (WEDNESDAY) AND FOLLOWS A BLOODY PERIOD IN ADEN'S HISTORY WITH 398 KILLED AND 1,814 WOUNDED SINCE EMERGENCY REGULATIONS WERE ENFORCED ON DECEMBER 10, 1963.
