MACMILLAN: "Outside the courtroom, the narrow issues of law were forgotten by A.D.L. Attorney Laurence Peres and Dr. M.T. Madi of an American-Arab Organisation."



MACMILLAN(TO PERES): "If the points of law were as clear as the Judge suggested, then can we assume that this whole exercise was undertaken for its public relations value?"



PERES: "Oh no, no. We wanted....We couldn't get the State Department to restrict them. Before this they had issued B-2's. We want the record to show that we also wanted the public to know, in part, that these are thugs, these are desperate people. These are...."



MADI(INTERRUPTING): "I object to you calling these people thugs. I am with the Palestinian Liberation Organisation. You cannot call these people....who are trying to get their land freed....calling them this language."



PERES: (INTERRUPTING)"I would like to discuss the question of the killing of the children in Ma'alot and Kiryat Shemonoh."



MADI (INTERRUPTING): "The Israeli Government has killed more Palestinians, more Arabs, than the Palestinians have ever."



MACMILLAN: "Stringent security measures are being planned at the United Nations. And it was noted in the courtroom that while the Anti-Defamation League sought to protect nine million Americans from PLO terrorism, the nine Arabs were likely to be exposed to some dangers as well. Background: An attempt by a prominent Jewish Civil Rights Organisation -- the Anti-Defamation League of the B'Nai B'Rith -- to prevent the entry of members of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) into the United States, was turned down by a Federal Court Judge in New York on Friday (1 November).

The PLO members have been invited to present the Palestinian case at the forthcoming United Nations debate on the Middle East. The group, including PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat, have been granted restricted visas, valid for 29 days only, by the United States Government. But the Anti-Defamation League wanted to see them denied entry altogether.

Rejecting the Anti-Defamation League's case, Federal Judge Mark Constantins said: "At times, our responsibility to the United Nations may require us to issue visas to persons who are objectionable to certain segments of our society."
After the curtroom ruling, Anti-Defamation League lawyer, Lawrance Peres clashed verbally with Dr. M.T. Madi, the representative of an American-Arab Organisation. The clash occurred as Mr. Pores was being interviewed by Television News Incorporated reporter, Andy Macmillan. A transcript follows:
