  • Description

Following the Israeli raid on the Palestinian refugee camp at Burghuliyeh in southern Lebanon on Tuesday (5 August), a spokesman for the Palestinian commandos told newsman at the camp on Wednesday (6 August) that they intended to step up their military operations inside Israel, despite the Israeli "war of genocide against the Palestinian people".

The spokesman, who read the announcement to the newsmen, was Mr. Ziad Abdel-Fattah, the Editor of the Palestine News Agency (WAFA). He had taken the newsmen on a conducted tour of the Burghuliyeh camp, which is about five miles (8 metres) north of Tyre. Meanwhile, Lebanese Army and commando experts were defusing an unexploded heavy Israeli rocket which had landed in the centre of the camp.

The Israelis had attacked another camp nearby during the two hour raid. Eighteen people were killed in the raid, which was carried out by Israeli air and navy forces. They included four Lebanese army officers who were killed at nearby barracks which were hit by Israeli artillery fire.

Mr. Abdel-Fattah said that the Palestinians were determined to step up their military action against the enemy inside their "occupied" homeland. They were waging a just struggle and were confident of victory.
