  • Description

Sabotage is suspected in the derailment of a goods train carrying fuel near Voi in kenya on Wednesday night (5 March).

According to the driver who was seriously burned, the diesel engine suddenly left the track at the right hand band about one mile (two kms) outside the township. As the engine was derailed and the coaches went off the rails, one tanker apparently exploded starting a fierce fire which burned for several hours. the engine, 10 tankers and two goods trucks were destroyed. Besides the driver, two other people were injured.

A barrage of questions were directed at the Minister for Power and Communications, Mr. Issac Omolo Okero, in Parliament. He said the explosion had been caused by the derailment but refused to say if sabotage had caused the accident.

The incident, five days after a bomb exploded aboard a crowded bus in Nairobi killing 26 people, caused speculation that the mystery bombers had struck again.
