Background: It was announced today (Thursday) that Britain's World Cup Captain Bobby Moore would be allowed to go to Mexico on condition that he reports to the Colombian Embassy while the case continued in Bogota. Meanwhile, Judge Pedro Dorado of Seventh Judicial District of Bogota, has been carrying out investigations into the allegations that Moore had stolen a GBP600 (1,440-dollar) gold bracelet from a local jewellery shop. Pressmen and curious officials tried to cram into the Judge's chambers during the six hours of witness questioning that took place on Tuesday (May 26). The following morning (Wednesday), Judge Dorado and the lawyers for both sides, adjourned to the Hotel Tequendama to look at the scene of the alleged crime and speak to salesgirl Clara Padilla who testified against Moore.

Among the first witnesses to give evidence was Danilo Rojas, the owner of the Green Fire jewellery shop in the Tequendama Hotel, who claims that Moore put the bracelet into his pocket as he and other British players looked at Jewellery in the shop when they stayed in the hotel last week.

Another important witness was travelling salesman Alvaro Suarez, whose testimony that he was looking through the shop window when he saw Moore put bracelet in his pocket, has been the most damning for the 29-year old British Captain. He also claimed that he immediately told a policeman on duty in the hotel. However, he was followed as a witness by Juan Munoz, a policeman who works in the hotel and who is reported to have denied having been told anything at all at that time.

Yesterday (Wednesday), the Judge, witnesses, lawyers and press moved back to the hotel Tequendama - where the various participant pointed out where they were at the time of alleged robbery. Thereto they were joined by Clara Padilla - the jewellery girl who testified that Bobby Moore and other British players had stood next to the display cabinet just before she noticed the bracelet was missing.

Moore, who was detained at the Bogota Airport on Monday (May 25) when he was flying back to Mexico from playing in El Salvador, has denied all charges. And, as evidence seems to be contradictory on the part of many witnesses, hopes are high that Moore will be exonerated by the Judge. Bobby Moore was not arrested, but had been allowed to remain under house detention in the home of Colombian Football Association executive Alfonso Senior. He is being defeated by Vicente Laverde Aponte - former Colombian Judge himself.
