  • Description

The traditional festival of burning one King Ravan, a demon, his son and his brother, drew thousands-strong crowds in Delhi October 21 22.

After a spectacular procession of tableaux, chariots and bands and dancers to exhibit the condemned demons through Delhi's streets, three huge bonfires and firecrackers dispatched the demons - in temporal form they were more effigies of their former selves - into the black night.

The festival, known as Dussehra, goes back to the old Indian days of mythology and bygone wars blooded by the deeds of King Ravan. The King's fate and that of his country was sealed in the fire of the revenge of Good.
