Background: Martin Chivers, England's star soccer forward against Switzerland earlier in the week, turned in another brilliant performance for his club, Tottenham Hotspur today (Saturday). Chivers scored twice as his side romped to a 4-1 victory over the Midlands club Wolves in the English First Division.
SYNOPSIS: Wolves kick-off the first half of their encounter with Tottenham Hotspur in the English First Division on Saturday. Both clubs were up among the leaders of the division at the start of this game. But Spurs, the North London club, had a couple of advantages--they were playing on their own ground and they were playing a Wolves side weakened by injury and lacking such stars as Dougan and Wagstaffe. Spurs were the first to threaten goals.
For a while there was one-way traffic as Gilzean and Chivers led the attack on the Wolves goal.
Mike England takes a free-kick for Spurs. A Mullery shot is parried and the rebound goes to Gilzean who puts Spurs ahead after twenty-five minutes.
Another Spurs free kick....but this time England star Martin Peters can only shoot at the goalkeeper.
The second half. Spurs were by now two goals in the lead. But here Bailey makes it 2-1 for Wolves.
Spurs counter-attacked. And Martin Chivers, England's star forward in the match against Switzerland earlier in the week, makes it 3-1.
Near the end, Neighbour made it 4-1 for Spurs. And that's how it ended.
