  • Description

Highlight of the 44th annual German wine congress - held this year at Bad Durkheim, near Mannheim, Aug 20-28-- was the Aug 24 election of eighteen year-old Christel Koch as "Wine Queen of 1960".

Selected from nine pretty young Frauleins - all vineyard workers - Miss Koch was crowned and invested with other insignia by last year's "Wine Queen", Wilma Seyer.

Several thousand wine growers are gathered at Bad Durkheim to discuss latest methods, inspect new inventions, listen to lectures and to taste last years vintage. It was pronounced by the experts to have been a good year, in fact the 1959 Moselle is judged to be one of the best.

More than 300 manufacturers of implements and products of value to the wine growing industry, are exhibiting their goods at an Industrial Fair adjoining the town. Prize exhibit is a bottle of wine dating back to Roman times. It is said to be more than 2,000 years old.
