The Soviet Union has suggested that a new round of peace talks should be held at the United Nations Security Council. Mr Papandreou, recently. returned to Greece after six years of self-imposed exile, said that he is in favour of this.

He went on to predict that both the United States and the United Kingdom would attempt to block the Soviet proposal, and added: "But in so doing I think that they will expose the NATO plan for Cyprus and the role of the West in the rape of that island."
Mr Papandreou has returned to Greece at a time when the people are particularly bitter towards the United States....feeling that they have been betrayed by the Americans unwillingness to prevent the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.
