Background: The managing director of the International Monetary Fund, M. Pierre Paul Schweitzer, has made a three-day visit to Ghana. While there, he called on the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Mr. J. H. Frimpong, for an unofficial talk. While in Ghana, Mr. Schweitzer said the IMF is willing to finance a buffer stock cocoa if there is no favourable cocoa agreement. But he added that his visit was purely routine to review development and exchange ideas.
SYNOPSIS: The managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Mr. Pierre-paul Scheweitzer, has had unofficial talks with the Governor and other officials of the Bank of Ghana, during a three-day visit to the country.
Mr. Schweitzer told reporters his visit to Ghana was purely routine, to review development and exchange ideas. But he said the IMF is willing to finance a buffer stock of cocoa if there is no favourable cocoa agreement. Asked it the IMF would require special conditions before giving aid to Ghana, Mr. Schweitzer said the same international rules and procedures apply to Ghana as to any other country. Later he left for Liberia.
