TODAY (SUNDAY) HE WAS BACK IN KOLWEZI, THE LAST REMAINING KATANGESE STRONGHOLD. YESTERDAY HE LEFT NDOLA IN NORTHERN RHODESIA WHERE HE HAD BEEN HAVING A CONFERENCE WITH SEVERAL OF HIS MINISTERS. HIS DEPARTURE CAME AS U THANT RE-AFFIRMED IN NEW YORK THAT M.TSHOMBE WAS "LEGITIMATE PRESIDENT OF THE PROVINCE OF KATANGA".

THE SECRETARY-GENERAL WAS TAKING ISSUE WITH PRESIDENT KWAME NKRUMAH OF GHANA WHO, IN A LETTER PUBLISHED IN ACCRA ON FRIDAY, SAID THE UN DECISION TO ALLOW PRESIDENT TSHOMBE FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT WAS AN EXAMPLE OF "VACILLATION AND LACK OF RESOLUTION IN THE SECRETARIAT'S HANDLING OF THE SITUATION."
IN WASHINGTON TODAY DIPLOMATIC SOURCES WERE QUOTED AS SAYING THAT BETWEEN EIGHT AND TEN MILLION DOLLARS IN CONGOLESE CURRENCY HAD BEEN REPORTED MISSING FROM THE KATANGA NATIONAL BANK IN ELISABETHVILLE.
