    MAY DAY IN MALI WAS CELEBRATED WITH A PARADE IN BAMAKO, ATTENDED BY THE PRESIDENT, MODIBO KEITA. WORKERS, DRESSED IN THE TRADITIONAL PEASANT'S COSTUME OF BLUE OVERALLS, MARCHED ALONG THE ADVENTURE OF INDEPENDENCE BEHIND LORRIES, DECORATED WITH LOCAL PRODUCE.

    IN A SPEECH, PRESIDENT KEITA CALLED FOR "REVOLUTIONARY VIGILANCE" AGAINST COLONIALISM AND URGED ALL PEOPLES OF AFRICA TO REALISE THE DREAMS OF UNITY.

    HE SAID THAT THE REVOLUTION, STARTED LAST YEAR, WAS THE LOGICAL CONSEQUENCE OF DEVIATION, BY CERTAIN LEADERS, FROM THE DEFENCE OF THE WORKER'S AND PEASANT'S INTERESTS. IT WAS LAST AUGUST WHEN THE PRESIDENT SUSPENDED THE ACTIVITIES OF THE RULING SUDANESE UNION PARTY AND REPLACED THE PARTY BUREAUS WITH A NATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR THE DEFENCE OF THE REVOLUTION.

    THE PRESIDENT ALSO DENOUNCED WHAT HE CALLED "IMPERIALISM IN VIETNAM AND IN TERRITORIES OCCUPIED BY PORTUGAL".

    IN HIS SPEECH, UNION LEADER, FAMADY SISSOKO ASKED THE PRESIDENT TO CREATE A COMMISSION OF CONTROL FOR ALL ASSETS OWNED BY MALIANS, BOTH AT HOME AND ABROAD.
