Background: VISNEWS filmed Feb 11 the airport reception led by the Indonesian Prime Minister Dr. Juanda of the Cambodian Prime Minister Prince Norodom Sihanouk on a five-day visit to Indonesia.
The Prince accompanied by his daughter is the third Asian head of state to visit Indonesia - a leading neutralist country in Asia - in recent months. Dr. Juanda is to visit Malaya later this year to resume negotiations for a friendship and cultural treaty between the two countries.
The thirty seven year old Prince became King of Cambodia when barely 19. He abdicated 1955 in favour of his father and since has been called five times as Prime Minister. His fifth term started July last year.
After the guard of honour inspection high Indonesian officials and diplomats greeted the Prince. He has travelled widely and last August he made an official visit to China soon after the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and China. He has also visited India.
To Indonesian leaders like Premier Juanda who welcomed the Prince in a long speech - Cambodia is an important country, though small and independent of the French only since 1953. Prince Norodom who took the leading part in Cambodia's struggle for freedom has also in a large measure shaped Cambodia's neutralist policy in foreign affairs.
In this, Cambodia comes closer to Indonesia than other neighbours of Indonesia in South East Asia. Culturally too, Indonesians and Cambodians have much in common. The problems of Indonesia and Cambodia at least in one respect have a common factor - border violations.
The Prince replying, stressed his country would remain neutralist.
The President of the Communist North Viet Nam, Ho Chi Minh is expected shortly in Indonesia on a State Visit.
