In Manila, President and Mrs. Marcos inaugurated Asian Centre on Wednesday (Feb. 4) for training and research in social welfare and development of the ESCAP member nations
The Asian Centre of the Economic and social commission for Asia and the Pacific - formerly known as ECAFE - was opened with the raising of the UN flag and the flags of the 31 ESCAP member nations and eight associate member nations by girl scouts and representatives of the respective countries dressed in their native costume.
Mrs. Marcos lighted candle to mark the inauguration of the Centre.
The asian centre is a UN - supported inter-governmental institution designed to strengthen developmental strategies in social welfare oriented to the needs of countries in the Asia and Pacific regions.
It will provide advanced training for key personnel operating in leadership roles in formulation of social welfare policies and plans, and undertake research and production of teaching and reference material on social welfare.
The building has dormitory facilities of 40 bedrooms, two conference halls, and audio-visual room and office space.
