Background: A 12-member Iraqi delegation headed by Mr. Murtadha Saeed Abdul Baqi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, began discussions on Indo-Iraqi co-operation and trade matters in New Delhi on Tuesday (22 August). Mr. Baqi and his delegation first met Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi at her Office, before proceeding to the Parliament buildings to begin talks with Mr. N. L. Misra, India's Minister of Foreign Trade and other officials. India has recently expressed its full support for Iraq's nationalisation of the Iraqi Petroleum Company, has offered technological help in the exploitation of natural resources, and has signed an agreement to import 250,000 tons of crude oil from Iraq before the end of the year.
