    A United States' delegation of Congressmen visiting six South American countries to study bilateral relations, military and economic matters has met with leaders of Ecuador's government. They've signed and agreement of mutual aid between the two countries after holding talks on a variety of issues, including attempts to stem the flow of illicit drugs.

    SYNOPSIS: The eleven congressmen arrived in Ecuador's capital, Quito, last Thursday (11 August). They were greeted at the Presidential palace by the head of the military government, Vice-Admiral Alfredo Poveda and other government leaders. Ecuador was the first nation on the list of six Latin American countries to be visited. At the Foreign Affairs ministry, ways of controlling the massive flow of drugs, especially narcotics, was high on the agenda, both for Foreign Minister, Jose Ayala and the northern Americans.

    Some success in the talks was evident when representatives of the two countries signed an agreement of mutual aid. In their visits to Peru, Columbia, Brazil, Argentina and Chile, as well as Ecuador, the congressmen are taking special interest in economic aid requests and needs. They're stressing the need to help the development of countries like Ecuador, which needs massive funds just to purify its drinking water.
