  • Description

Sino-Nepalese relations entered a new phase July 10 with the arrival in Kathmandu of the advance party of China's resident diplomatic mission. The party of four is headed by Liu Ya-Min, who will act as his country's Charge d'Affaires until an Ambassador is appointed.

Until a suitable building has been found, the Chinese Embassy will function from Kathmandu's Hotel Coronation. Other Embassies in Kathmandu are those of India, Great Britain, the United States of America, and the Soviet Union.

Nepal and China signed a diplomatic relations treaty on August 1st 1955, but until now relations between the two countries have been handled by the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi, India. Last March, when Nepalese Premier Koirala visited Peking, he signed an agreement allowing China to maintain a permanent Embassy in Kathmandu.
