Background: Under the National Five Year Plans, are included river-bridges improvements such as renovation of old bridges and replacements with new bridges. This is the story filmed at the site of Ranganga river, the old bridge of which is an age-old plight for the goods and peoples transport. The road to the bridge is through vast sandy ground, a narrow track laid up with iron slippers, permitting single way traffic and only one vehicle traffic in the width of the road. If a vehicle gets out of order in mid way, the traffic at its back and in front has to stop till it is repaired. People can cross through water. So can cattle. But goods can be transported by boats only to cross, the boats cannot carry trucks across, they must go via the bridge road of the bridge, if it was broken on account of flood or hailstorm, is repaired and until then wait and wait. It has gone on for years of no account. Now a new bridge is started coming up and is in the preliminary stage of the work of its being built, in the estimated period. The amount of the new bridge as per a newspaper report is enclosed herewith. Following are the shots made at the age old bridge and at the construction work for the new. The age old bridge lies on a row of boats. A day earlier then the cameraman went to the site, hailstorm broke the bridge. The picture shows the plight caused by this situation. The new bridge which will be modern when ready will help improve the activity in the area.
