    Over a million people are estimated to have paid homage at Bairb'e burial mosque throughout Tuesday as Egypt commemorated the first anniversary of President Gamal Abrial Nasser's death. Crowds chanting the old cries of "Nasser. Nasser", formed procession through the city, carrying banners and placards proclaiming "Nasser is ??? alive, Nasser will not die", "we will remember you for ever".

    First to pay respects at the tomb were the president's widow ???. After the family came streams of factory workers, students,officers of the police and armed forces, and diplomats.

    Cairo newspaper, Al Akhbar, carrying black banner headlines, stated: "Gamal Abdel Nasser was no common or ordinary leader. He gave Egypt independence, honour and dignity".
