  • Description

HUNDREDS OF EX-SERVICEMEN OF THE AFRICA CORPS ASSEMBLED IN HEIDENHEIM, BADEN WURTEMBURG, GERMANY, NOV 12, TO WITNESS THE UNVEILING OF A MEMORIAL TO THE LATE FIELD MARSHALL ROMMEL.

THE FIELD MARSHAL'S WIDOW ATTENDED THIS CEREMONY ON WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE FIELD MARSHAL'S SEVENTIETH BIRTHDAY.

NUMEROUS OFFICERS OF THE BRITISH ARMY WERE INVITED TO SEND MESSAGES, ALL BUT TWO DECLINED. ROMMEL IS SAID TO HAVE PLAYED A PROMINENT PART IN THE PLOT AGAINST ADOLF HITLER, AND SUBSEQUENTLY COMMITTED SUICIDE.

HIS SON MANFRED WAS AT THE CEREMONY, AND ESCORTED HIS MOTHER MOTHER FROM THE MEMORIAL MONUMENT.
