HE WAS SPEAKING IN A NATIONWIDE TELEVISION INTERVIEW FOLLOWING THE MEETING LAST WEEK-END OF LEADING CENTRAL BANKERS IN BASLE.

    M. COUVE DE MURVILLE SPOKE BOTH ON THE FRENCH AND THE INTERNATIONAL MONETARY SITUATIONS. HE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE FRENCH FRANCE WAS INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS CRISIS, BUT THIS CRIS, ACCORDING TO HIM IS ALSO AN INTERNATIONAL ONE.
    M. COUVE DE MURVILLE WAS SPEAKING AFTER AN UNPRECEDENTED RUN ON THE FRENCH FRANC SINCE PRESIDENT DE GAULLE INTRODUCED THE "NEW FRANC" IN JANUARY 1960. DURING HIS INTERVIEW THE PRIME MINISTER ALSO ANNOUNCED PLANS FOR GREATER FINANCIAL STRINGENCY AND A REVISION OF THE COUNTRY'S EXPANSIONIST 1969 DRAFT BUDGET. BUT HE DID NOT GIVE ANY DETAILS ON THE INTERNAL MEASURES TO BE TAKEN. HE ALSO DID NOT GIVE ANY FIGURES OF THE EXTENT OF THE SUPPORT WHICH HAD BEEN PROMISED AT THE CENTRAL BANKERS MEETING IN BASLE.
