    The Economic Exhibition of Rumania opened in Peking on August 5th.

    The opening ceremony was attended by Premier Chou En-lai, Vice-Premier Li Hsien-nien and leaders of many government ministries and more than 1,000 people of all walks of life.

    The opening ceremony was also attended by the visiting Rumanian Government delegation led by Bujol Almasan.

    In both their speeches, Bujol Almasan and Lai Jen-pin, Vice-Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade pointed out that the exhibition would serve to promote the development of the fraternal, friendly cooperation between the peoples of China and Rumania.

    The ribbon was cut by Premier Chou En-lai.

    After the ceremony, Premier Chou En-lai and Vice-Premier Li Hsien-Nien, accompanied by Bujol Almasan and Brad Berns, leader of the exhibition group, visited the pavilions.

    Occupying a floor space of 8,500 square metres, the more than two thousand exhibits include lathes, farm machinery and petroleum drilling machines.

    Two huge oil drilling machines drew great interest.

    The exhibition mirrored the brilliant achievements of the Rumanian people in developing their national economy and culture.
