Background: ANATOLY KORCHAGIN
Morning in Moscow is a morning of working people. Dozens of large industrial enterprizes, are situated in the city. Hundreds of thousands of people work there. "I am a worker". Soviet people pronounce these words with a feeling of pride for their labour, for their place in life, in society, in the state.
Anatoly Korchagin began to work at the Moscow Factory of Grinding Machines over twenty years ago. His father was killed at the front and the 16 year-old boy was received at the factory as into a kind and exacting family. Anatoly worked and studied, then taught others. His disciples may be found even in far-away Cuba, where he had gone to exchange experience. At present Korchagin is at the head of the sector of machines of extreme precision. His factory has become his family in the exact sence of the word. His oldest son Yuri follows the way of his father. He studies at the vocational school in the evenings. His wife Julia is an engraver. This rough steel ingot will become at Korchagin's sector an element processed with the highest degree of accuracy. The element may not differ a micron from the given dimensions - is must provide the preciseness of the work of the whole machine. The machines which are produced at the factory are purchased by 20 countries. Often father and son Korchagin come together to the "Druzhba" book shop which sells editions of Socialist countries. After the visit to Cuba Korchagin began to collect books about that country. His son collects records of modern music. Anatoly Korchagin devotes much of his time to social work. As a Deputy of the District Council he is very attentive to the needs of his electors. Recently the factory built new flats for their workers. The Korchagin family moved into a large flat in this house. The rent is only five percent of the family budget. Little Igor likes the evenings when the whole family gets together - then he can boast of the good grades he receives in school.
Yerevan, the capital of Soviet Armenia, is one of the most ancient cities in the world. The Republic has achieved wonderful accomplishments. Probably the most vivid example of the flowering of Armenian culture is the work of the Republican Academy of Sciences. It carries out research work which develops practically all fields of science. Armenian scientists are elaborating a number of new lines in science which are of great theoretical and applied significance. One of the most outstanding contemporary mathematicians Sorgoi Mergolyan heads the Main Calculation Centre of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian Republic. Margolyan had become an Academician when he was only 25 years old. Compact and quick electronic computers were devised under his guidance. They find wide use in the people's economy of the country. The Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry. Recently a new artificial material had been devised here. It will substitute rock crystal in the production of quartz glass. Academician Manvel Manvelyan and his collaberaters devised new methods of processing mineral raw materials. Artificial materials will be produced at the new enterprise of Armenia - the Razdansky Chemical Plant, the project of which is being carried out on the basis of scientific recommendations of the Institute which is headed by Academician Manvelyan.
Demes of the Byurakansk Astrophysical Observatory tower the snow covered slppis of Argentina. The exploration of stellar worlds is being carried out under the guidance of Vikter Ambartoumyan, President of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian Soviet Republic, President of the International Council of Scientific Unions. It is said that he "travels" through the galactic as easily as if they were the streets of his native Yerovan. His discoveries have produced a real revolution in the ideas of astrenomists and physicists about the structure of the Universe. His work received a practical appliance. A system "Oriel" was devised at the branch of the Byurakausky Observatory. Soviet cemonauts had photographed stellar objects during their flight with the help of this system. The development of space observateior which will be installed on orbital stations are carried out under the guidance of Academician Ambartaumyan.
