South Vietnamese troops in Quang Tri killed 15 communist soldiers and captured an NVN tank in a dawn battle around the northern outskirts of the city on Monday (10 April) the ARVN troops lost six men in the fighting.

Quang Tri, along with the cultural capital of Hue, is thought by military observers to be prime object of the North Vietnamese offensive south of the Demilitarised Rone. Defenses around south cities have been strengthened since Easter, and ARVN troops have moved up tanks and artillery in case of an all-out communist assault before the monsoon season brings all conventional ground warfare to a halt.
