    Urgently needed medical supplies, clothing fabrics, blankets and cooking utensils have arrived in the Congo Republic by the boatload - the gift of the African Society of Japan. At a ceremony at the United Nations Headquarters in Leopoldville on July 27, a token selection of the range of goods that arrived in the ship "Hawaii Maru", were handed over by Mr Kaksuo Okazaki, permanent Japanese delegate to the U.N. in New York, assisted by the Japanese Ambassador in the Congo, Mr Zakito Sato.

    The gifts, described by Mr Sato as a token of the warm feeling the Japanese people had towards the Congo people in their hour of economic trouble, was received by Mr Khiary, the U.N. Chief of Civilian Operations in the Congo. The thanks of the Congolese people was expressed by Cabinet Minister, Mr Martin Ipoto.
