  • Description

The hijackers of a Philippines Airlines plane agreed to free 69 passengers on condition that an airline official be handed over as hostage along with U.S. 300,000 dollars ransom money.

Negotiations between the hijackers and military authorities have been going on since the BAC-111 landed at Manila International Airport shortly before noon on Wednesday (April 7) after being hijacked in Cagayan De Oro City, 500 miles Southeast of Manila.

The hijackers believed to be members of a secessionist group in southern Philippines, have threatened to kill the passengers if their demands for a ransom money and the release of some prisoners were not met.

The airline official who has agreed to go with the three armed hijackers is Mr. Rafael Igoa, Vice-President of Philippine Airlines.

The destination of the plane was not known although the pilot had earlier asked for a flight map to Singapore and flight details to other Asian points.
