  • Description

Labour Ministers from 13 African countries have been meeting in Cameroun to discuss the financing of economic and social projects within their countries. The Ministers were all from member countries of CRADAT -- the African Regional Centre for Labour Administration.

SYNOPSIS: The meeting in Cameroun's capital, Yaounde, opened on the 24th of September. It was in 1965 that the West African countries realised the need for a group to coordinate social and economic development in their countries. By 1970 a group had formed that laid the basis for CRADAT.

Cameroun's Minister of Labour and Social Security, Paul Dontsop, presided at this month's meeting. The group discussed the financial budget for the coming year and the adoption of an agreement between CRADAT and the Cameroun government. Monsieur Albert Vanie Bi-tra, the Ivory Coast Labour minister, was elected First Vice-President of CRADAT.

A number of delegates from international organisations attended the meeting as observers. One of the group's major sources of finance int he past has been the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The ministers were told that the International Labour Organisation will increase their contributions to CRADAT.
